Mesmerised – An Insight

Bismillah,

When I was was young I had the pleasure of memorising the Names and Attributes of Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla (glorified and exalted be He). I would enjoy the belief; this may be my means of attaining Jannah. As Abu Hurayrah gave us all hope, he raḍyAllāhu 'anhu (may Allāh be pleased with him) narrated:

“There are ninety nine names of Allah, whoever commits them would go to paradise. Verily, Allah is odd (Allah is one and it is an odd number) and He loves odd numbers.” [1. Muslim No. 4835]

Then a few years ago I came to the realisation that memorisation wasn’t enough, as Ibn Al-Qayyim raḥimahum Allāh (may Allāh have mercy upon them) said; “Memorising them, understanding their meaning and supplicating Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla (glorified and exalted be He) using His Names.” Ibn Hajr raḥimahum Allāh (may Allāh have mercy upon them) said; “It means to “Memorise them, knowing their meaning and believing in them, acting upon them.”

Once one has the realisation that mere memorisation is not enough, this becomes the beginning of a beautiful journey in knowing who Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla (glorified and exalted be He) truly is. This leads me on to Mesmerised – By the Might of your Creator.

We have recently launched a new publication, we feature excerpts by ten Muslim women from around the world, each sharing their experiences and journeying through the beautiful Names and Attributes of Allah . This book goes much further and expands on what was said in our the conference, with additional points and exclusive advice from the Sisters themselves. The aim of Mesmerised is the hope for you to fall in love with the Names of Allah and implement them in your life every day. Everytime you go through a problem, you seek your solution through Allah and one of His beautiful Names and Attributes.

This is a short excerpt I have taken from the  introduction to Mesmerised – by the Might of your Creator, another I am Alima publication. It starts with various individuals and the beginning of their Turning Point, back to Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla (glorified and exalted be He).

Enjoy your journey in coming closer to Him!

There are moments in our lives when we make a decision to change. This moment is powerful. It’s life changing. Sometimes there is no turning back. You know you can do better, and this is when you decide to become the best.

However, not everyone is mesmerised so easily. Fatima needed to lose a loved one to learn. Isn’t it sad, that we need to be tested to excel? Isn’t it sad, at times this is the only way we learn?

As she sat by the hospital bed, her painful tears rolled down. “Daddy, I’m going to miss you so much. Please don’t leave us… Please.” Though deep down, she knew he was gone, hopefully to a better place, Insha’Allah.

Ahmed worked for a very successful multimillion pound organisation, and as he climbed up the ladder of success he began to slack in his worship. Deep down he started to believe he had achieved everything due to his own hard work, excluding the Creator in bringing these opportunities into his life.

“Listen I have a meeting, I’ll pray later.” He echoed to his friend, as they met for a coffee break. “Ahmed, you have it all, you’re blessed. Be careful, being genuine doesn’t save you from trials.” His friend replied. And he was right. It certainly didn’t. A few months later, Ahmed lost it all. He lost his job, he lost his wealthy friends. He lost his fiancé whom he lavished with gifts.

Was it the end for him? It almost was, but he survived. He returned to Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla (glorified and exalted be He) and he was saved.

Then you have, Hussain. Now, this guy is cool. You know, he’s donning the Prada glasses and Gucci scarf. He has a special design in his hair sides. A ‘Z’ specially placed for his girl. As he walks, he walks with style. Most girls would see him, and wish he’d pay them attention, and for sure – Hussain loves it. If there’s trouble, they call him to protect them, if they need some money; you know he’ll provide you with a solution. The guy is a G! You know what I’m sayin!

Let’s just say, when you spoke to him or tried to mess him around, he’d look at you with a grin and say; “You can’t play the player!”

Though, he didn’t protect himself, so even a guy who thinks he’s so tough, ended up falling for a girl. Now Hussain, after all his notorious days sincerely likes Zainab, in fact he declared his love. For Zainab, it was all love and play, she didn’t take him seriously, after all, this was Hussain. As Hussain became more serious about her, Zainab starts to take a step back, until she walks away, regardless of how much he persists. She just wants to have fun, she doesn’t want to commit. And with Hussain, the player? No way.

Heartbroken, attached in pain, Hussain doesn’t know what to do. And this is when he seeks solace in the One above and turns back to Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla (glorified and exalted be He), hoping his pain will be lessened. He comes back stronger. Zainab becomes a distant dream. He changes for the better. He starts practicing Islam and goes step further, he uses the same zeal in his past to do something great for his future. He becomes a role model.
