A fulfilling life

Life has so much beauty to it. Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla (glorified and exalted be He) has left ABSOLUTELY no chance of despair, in whatever phase of life. In fact, He has forbidden the believers to despair of His Mercy. Why is it when we don’t get something in life, we give up so easily? Is it because we fail to define ‘a fulfilling life’?

A fulfilling life is that where a person understands his responsibilities in life. He realizes and acknowledges that the God-given responsibilities are within his ability to fulfill because Allah does not burden a soul more than it can take. The heart then finds peace, comfort, and solace in fulfilling these responsibilities. For it is pleasing none but its Lord and in return finds the coolness of the eyes when it sees the fruits of its righteous actions.

In the journey of fulfilling its responsibilities, the heart does not fail to realize that it can dream higher and bigger, of more amazing things. So, it creates a vision for itself; A personal vision. A vision based on finding its own potential that Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla (glorified and exalted be He) has given it. The heart looks deep into itself, sees what makes it passionate in life, what it enjoys doing, and what it is good at. It then uses all its skills to serve Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla (glorified and exalted be He), in hope of a more fulfilling life. So, it envisions being a doctor, or a scholar, or a teacher, or an entrepreneur based on its passion and potential.

On its journey to achieve this personal vision, it does not neglect its primary responsibilities at any cost. So now, it has two visions. One vision is to fulfill the responsibilities given by Allah. The second vision is to achieve its personal vision in pursuit of excelling further in life.

For once, it is never despaired of the obstacles it faces in life. It accepts the challenges on the way and the hurdles with a smile and grace. It is content with the decree of Allah and asks Allah to help it to achieve its goal.

It knows that its career is not its purpose of life; hence it is never broken down easily when it doesn’t achieve its desired career. Rather, it believes in 3 key words throughout its life and enjoys all the beauty Allah has offered in this temporary life of the dunya.

Sincerity, Hard Work, Contentment

Whatever journey this heart embarks on, then it is sincere in achieving it for the pleasure of Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla (glorified and exalted be He) alone.

It works hard, day in and day out. No laziness or grief overcomes it, but it fights it away with strength.

While working hard, when it doesn’t achieve its desired goal, it is content. Because, it knows Al-Hakeem, the All-Wise, has a better plan for it. So it patiently awaits the reward and the result of Al-Fattaah, the Opener.

It spends its whole life fulfilling its responsibilities and striving to achieve its personal vision. It may achieve what it wanted or may not have achieved what it wanted. But surely, if this is how it lived, Allah will grant it the best and thus it has truly lived a “fulfilling life” –content and strived for.
